Transforming Agriculture Through Technology
Aníbal Pineda dreams of reshaping the agricultural sector in Mexico with his innovative platform, Ecubi. Launched in 2017, Ecubi is a web and mobile application designed to connect agricultural producers directly with wholesale customers, cutting out intermediaries. This approach not only reduces food waste but also promotes fair trade.
Aníbal, who holds a degree in Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering from UNITEC, created Ecubi with a mission to enhance the efficiency of the food supply chain.
The platform has helped reduce annual food surpluses from 20 million tons to 10 million tons, particularly for fruits, vegetables, and meat.
This impact has earned Ecubi and Aníbal significant accolades, including the Premio UNITEC and being named a finalist in the World Bank Group’s Project Contest for digital inclusion and innovation.
“Winning Premio UNITEC was a turning point for us. It helped us build credibility and gain trust from collaborators and customers,” Aníbal said.
Beyond connecting producers with markets, Ecubi also offers educational resources through Ecubi Academy. This initiative trains farmers and food industry professionals through short videos and interactive content. “We realized that technology alone isn’t enough to drive change. Education and skill development are crucial for real impact,” Aníbal explained.
Ecubi has transformed the way agricultural products are distributed and consumed. The platform’s success in reducing food waste and improving market access for small producers highlights the practical benefits of leveraging technology for social good. “Our work is about more than just technology; it’s about creating connections that lead to real change.”
Today, Aníbal remains focused on expanding Ecubi's impact and refining its technology. His work stands as a testament to how educational opportunities and a clear vision combined can tackle pressing challenges.
“We are deeply committed to progress in the food supply chain and making a positive difference in the agricultural industry, that will benefit the broader society.”
